So we were walking home from City Hall…

May 26th, 2011

M had family court today. His kid (We’ll call him K3) had some bad shit happen to him, got mixed up with the wrong crowd, got into some trouble and was sent to treatment for troubled teens. Time’s almost up, and K3 originally filed for emancipation, but today was to schedule his release into his mother’s care at the end of the school year. … Barely three months before his 18th birthday.

I’m not convinced this is the best move but time will tell. The kid seems to have somehow found a good head to wear on his shoulders over the past year or so. Course, I’ve known quite a few “bad boys” in my day, and so I’m skeptical. But I want to believe. So we’ve made plans to make plans. Which right now, because of the state of our personal life (long story – nothing to do with our relationship) is the best we can do.

K3 drove us home from court. Don’t even get me started on how old that makes me feel. And he informed us that he might be a father but he’s not really sure whether or not he wants to step in. Apparently, the girl was raising the baby as some other kid’s and the kid died. K3 read his obituary, which said something like “devoted father”, and K3 is worried that if he gets involved he’ll somehow take away from that. I had no idea what to say to him.

Our babies are having babies, man. What the fuck?

We had them drop us off downtown so M could pay a fine  from a billion years ago for a failed inspection, had lunch at our favorite cafe and walked home. On the way, this little whiny ragamuffin half-starved bag of bones covered in almost (my) flesh colored fur darted past us. I clicked at it and it stopped and turned around. The eyes that looked up at me from the tiny, oddly human face pierced right through my heart.

I noticed right away its freakishly long legs and overly pink nose. It meowed at us, took a couple steps forward and watched for a moment to see what we were going to do. Then it turned as if to go on its way. So I clicked at it again and squatted in front of it and it meowed at me again and walked closer.

So I picked it up before M could tell me not to. And I snuggled my face down into its fur. And it flopped over on its back in my arms and purred loud enough to be heard over the traffic. And that’s when I started begging. I couldn’t help it. It’s so damn cute! And cuddly. And loving. And feisty.

It took one lick. That’s it. M reached over to pet it, and it licked His hand. “Okay, we’re taking it home.”

I walked home with the cat, which I’m pretty sure is a boy, alternately sleeping and looking around intently in my arms.

When I put out canned food for both of them, he woofed it down in under three minutes and then went after hers after she walked away. She hissed, but left him alone. When I put out water, he gulped down as much as he could before I got bored and walked to the living room not realizing he was going to follow me.

He’s crazy about Cara. Not really scared of her at all. He’ll hunker down on the floor, and just watch her.

He climbs all over M’s and my chests and laps. Once he laid himself out on M’s shoulder and bicep. And that motor’s always going.

Cara’s … less than impressed. I expected that. I expect her to get over it, too. She’s already acting better than she was when we walked in the door. Here’s hoping we don’t get woken up by cats fighting.

We haven’t named him yet. I think it’s going to be Orion unless we come up with something better.

We just got a text from M’s ex telling us how happy K3 was to see us, and how excited he is to come hang out. The kid talked our ears off on the way home. It was obvious he was trying to impress his father. And his father was impressed. So was I, to be honest.

It was a nice day. Even with the long story.

The mom was raising it as another dad’s kid and the other dad died? It reads like that’s what you’re trying to say, but you put kid instead of dad. =p It is sad though. I wouldn’t know what to tell him either, though. Kids need good dads, but if he’s not over his bad boy phase, the in and out may hurt the kid. Then again, the kid might possibly cement his change. Some people grow up when they realize a kid depends on them.

I’m sad that I can’t see the pictures of the kitty. I hope he blends in well with the family. =)

@ Sarahbear Aww I wonder why you can’t see them? Hmm… I’ll have to upload them to ID. I was too lazy last night. M’s got better ones, I just don’t have access to them yet. Soon as I do, I’ll upload those, too.

And yes, that’s what I meant to say. Lol. I was so tired when I wrote this last night I’m surprised any of it’s coherent.

KITTEN! I can see the pictures of the kitty. I wuvs the kitty. I see why you’re so taken with it; I don’t know if I could resist that face either.
