Product Review: Jaguar Wrist Cuffs by ASLAN Leather

December 17th, 2010

20101217-img_4553Ooo, what’re those?

Those are the Jaguar Wrist Cuffs by ASLAN Leather, and as you can see, you can lock them.  However, the locks aren’t included.  M rarely likes locks that come with toys, anyway, since so many of them have quick releases, or are cheaply made.  So, a Master lock it is.  Fitting, I guess.

What’d they come in?

If memory serves (and this is really pathetic, considering I only just got them two weeks ago), they came back to back in a clear plastic bag inside a box, or envelope, or something. Stuffed in the box was scores of recyclable brown paper, which rocks hardcore, cause my cat is obsessed with paper, and giving her some of this keeps her from searching my garbage can for napkins. And I use it to line my bird cage. So it all gets folded up and tucked away until I need to clean the cage, or Cara’s paper’s too shredded to let her play with it anymore.

How’re they made?

Length Width Strap # of holes
Jaguar 8 3/4″ 2″ 11 3/4″ 6
SL Cuffs 8 3/4″ 2″ 12 3/4″ 5

So, as you can see, the Jaguar Wrist Cuffs really aren’t all that different from Strict Leather’s design. Matter of fact, in some of those pictures, if you look closely, you’ll notice that I’ve taken pictures of a Strict Leather cuff, and a Jaguar one so you can see the difference.

The inside cuff of these restraints are made of two pieces of soft black leather. The outer piece is folded over, and sewn to the second layer. It’s soft and cushiony, and has only one piece of metal that goes all the way through all three layers. That rivet holds a tag in place with the company’s logo and website on it.

Attached to the inner cuff is a black leather strap. On the strap is a metal buckle you can slide a padlock through. It has a piece of metal to hold the excess leather in place, and a d-ring for easy bondage. All of this is held together with a number of metal rivets.

What’re they for?

Bondage, mostly. M uses cuffs as a constant reminder that I am an owned animal, and not a free woman. Besides that, keeping me in cuffs makes it easy to string me up before I can put up much of a fight. Not that I ever do. Though wouldn’t that be fun? And soft leather like this makes extended wear much more comfortable than, say, metal or rope.

How are they?

Rayne’s Rating:
Pros: Cons:
mostly comfortable
soft
well made
nice design
locking
a little stiff
metal rivet in awful place
tag’s itchy

My single actual complaint about these cuffs is the placement of the metal. Especially the single rivet that goes all the way through. I’m finding I have a really difficult time finding a comfortable way to wear them. Which makes them great for a short session in which M intends for me to be wholly uncomfortable, but makes it really difficult to get into a session He’d like me to enjoy.

They are a little stiff, but so were the Strict Leather cuffs at first, so I expect that if I can find a comfortable position to wear them in, and leave them on for more than fifteen minutes at a time, they’ll probably break in, and soften up a bit. And I imagine the tag can be removed. I just haven’t tried it yet.

Other than that, they’re mostly comfortable. They don’t pinch, or anything, and it could totally be the way my wrists are shaped, and not the cuffs at all. They’re nice looking, as you can see, and well made. And I’m sure once I break them in, I’ll wear them more often.

I’m currently trying the old “baseball in the glove” trick. Rubbing them with a little oil, and then buckling them closed with the hope that it’ll mold a bit, and soften up faster. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Anything else I should know?

Clean up is a snap with a damp cloth, or some saddle soap for really difficult stains.  Make sure they’re dry before storing them. Store them where ever you store your sex toys.

Where’d ya get it?

You can pick up this great product from SheVibe! They’ve been nominated for multiple industry awards and have Epiphora’s seal of approval. Plus, here’s this handy dandy list they compiled of reasons you should shop with them. What more could you ask for in a sex toy store?

Those look lovely. I recently bought an Aslan ball gag for my girlfriend, and I was really pleased with it. And in addition to their high quality stuff, they’ve won my eternal support by offering most of their products in a vegan leather version (it’s not always easy to find high quality vegan friendly BDSM products).

I have the black and white version of these. I love them, but they are a little too short. I did have the stiff issue at first. It fixed with bending for me. Hopefully the same for you.
