A Little About Me That You May or May Not Know

July 1st, 2010

Stolen from Kaya.  Apparently, I’m as bored as she is.  Though I suppose I have better things I could be doing.  Like finishing the two reviews I’ve started.

1. What is your first name?
I’d rather not say.  Those who are close to me know.  But we’re considering changing it, legally, to Rayne, so you guys are more than welcome to keep calling me that. 🙂

2. Were you named after anyone?
I can’t remember if the women are my cousins or my aunts or just my birth mother’s friends.  That’s horrible, I know.  But I don’t really talk to my family, and I seem to have forgotten all the stories I only heard at the funeral of one of the few family members I cherished.

3. Do you wish on stars?
Only the first one that comes out.  If I happen to look out and there are dozens of stars in the sky, I don’t wish.

4. When did you last cry?
Last weekend.

5. Do you like your handwriting?
When my hand doesn’t hurt, it’s fairly neat, so I suppose I don’t hate it.  But in high school, I always wanted the big, bubbly handwriting all the popular girls had.  I never succeeded in perfecting it, though, and it developed into what it is now.  Small, just slightly feminine… And neat.  When my hand doesn’t hurt.

6. What is your favorite lunch meat?
I have to pick just one? Probably sandwiches are my favorite type of food in the world!

Hmm…

I guess I’ll have to say ham, since it’s usually what I insist on buying.  Though things I used to hate are growing on me.  Like roast beast and turkey.

7. What is your most embarrassing CD?
Uhhh…

I don’t really have any.  CDs, that is.  I suppose the most embarrassing thing I listen to, though, would be Miley Cyrus or Britney Spears.  What? I like dance music! What can I say? But it is not, by far, my favorite.  Just something I like to listen to now and again.

8. If you were another person, would you be friends with you?
I try to be friendly with everyone I meet, so I’d probably at least try.  I’m not sure I could maintain the kind of focus a friendship with me sometimes needs to stay alive, though.  I mean, this is me we’re talking about here.

I pacify the guilt I feel for this with the knowledge that if a friendship with me wasn’t worth it, the friends I have wouldn’t hang around.  That’s a nice thing to know.

9. Do you have a journal?
Yes, and I should have my ass kicked for not maintaining it.  I need to figure out a good time to sit down and write in it.  Before bed has long since stopped working, and by morning, I’ll have trouble recalling important details without M sitting there reminding me.  I need to start doing some memory exercises or something.  My memory is shot.

10. Do you use sarcasm a lot?
To a fault.  I’m working on it.

11. What are your nicknames?
Pig, cunt, bitch… Oh… and Rayne.  And there’s another one that my Mom-Mom always called me.  CarrieAnn occasionally calls me by it cause she’s a peach.  It makes me all smiley cause I miss her a lot.  My Mom-Mom, not CarrieAnn.  Though I miss CarrieAnn, too, when she’s so busy I can’t gab her ear off.

12. Would you bungee jump?
Hell yes! More than once.  As soon as I lose enough weight for it to be safe.

13. Do you untie your shoes before you take them off?
Nope.  And I’ve ruined more than one pair of shoes because of it.

14. Do you think that you are strong?
If we’re talking physically, not a chance.  Though I intend to rectify that.  But emotionally?

I do have mental and emotional issues.  There’s no denying that.  But I’ve taken a beating almost since day one.  And somehow, I keep pulling through.  So yeah.  I guess I’m pretty strong.

15. What is your favorite ice cream flavor?
It really depends on the day.  But right now, it’s Ben and Jerry’s Banana Split.

16. Shoe size?
8.5 or 9

17. Red or pink?
Neither? Ew.  I hate both.  Most of the time.

18. What is your least favorite thing about yourself?
My inability to process negative emotions without going into a blind, incoherent rage.  I’m getting better, but it’s still there, and it’s still doing damage to our relationship.

Second to that is my constant second guessing myself.  Always, I’m trying to analyze what I’ve said or done, and questioning whether or not I caused something that probably has nothing to do with me.  As if it really matters in the long run if it doesn’t have anything to do with Master or someone close to me.  And it usually doesn’t.  Cause, generally speaking, Master and those close to me know me well enough to know that most of what comes out of my mouth isn’t intended to be insulting.  So I don’t worry about it as much with them as I do with acquaintances.

19. What do you miss most?
The ocean.  And camping.  Definitely camping.

20. Do you want everyone you send this to, to send it back?
I’m not sending it to anyone, but it would be neat to see some of my readers’ and friends’ answers.

21. What color pants/shoes are you wearing?
Brown pants, no shoes.

22. What are you listening to right now?
The fan and the shower running.

23. Last thing you ate?
Cinnamon PopTarts.  Hush.  I know they’re bad for me.

24. If you were a crayon, what color would you be?
Purple was the first thing I put down, because it’s my favorite color.  But I think purple is the color I want to be.  I think bright orange fits me better.

25. What is the weather like right now?
Chilly, gray and humid.  In July.  New York’s weather is all fucked up.

26. Last person you talked to on the phone?
My neighbor.

27. The first thing you notice about the opposite sex?
The first thing I notice about everyone is their eyes.  They really are the doorway to one’s soul.

28. Do you like the person who sent this to you?
It wasn’t sent, I outright stole it.  But yeah, the person I stole it from is rockin’ awesome.

30. Favorite sport?
Softball/baseball.

31. Hair color?
This weird brown with all sorts of blond and red highlights.

32. Eye color?
It varies.  They range from gray to blue to a dark almost purple color.  The only constant is the yellow flecks.

33. Do you wear contacts?
Nope.

34. Favorite food?
This Indian spinach dish that we get when we go to the Sitar.  I’m not sure that I eat it correctly.  I always put it on my Na’an.  But I don’t care.  It’s really good that way.

35. Last movie you watched?
Beetlegeuse.  Last night.  For, like, the tenth time.  I’m not that behind.  Lol.

36. Favorite day of the year?
December 15th.

37. Scary movies or happy endings?
Both.

38. Winter or summer?
In the north, I prefer summer.  In the deep south, winter is pretty awesome.

39. Hugs or kisses?
Again, both.

40. What is your favorite dessert?
Fruit salad.  But the kind with melon and berries.  Not so much the kind with apples and oranges.

41. Who is most likely to do this meme?
Who knows? My friends tend to be pretty unpredictable with their internet participation.

42. Who is the least likely to do this meme and comment?
Same.

43. What books are you reading?
The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream by President Barack Obama and Making the Hook-Up edited by Cole Riley.  So far, I’m enjoying both.  Well, except the first story in Making the Hook-Up.  I didn’t much care for that one.

44. What’s on your mouse pad?
Saltwater fish.  It’s a freebie from some insurance company.  I need a new one.

My old one was Anne Geddes babies in flowers.  My then-four-years-old step-daughter wrote “fuck you” on it (We later found a whole slew of interesting words and phrases spelled out in childish handwriting on the backs of all the kids’ dressers at their mother’s house… Kids will be kids, I guess.), but I still hung onto it.  Till the picture started peeling off.  That’s when I realized it was destined for the circular file from the start.

45. What did you watch on TV last night?
The X-Files.  M insists that I should be embarrassed about enjoying this show.  I think he’s nuts.

46. Favorite smells?
Nag Champa, but the name brand kind, lilacs, and rubber.

47. Favorite sound?
M’s voice.

48. Rolling Stones or Beatles?
Beatles.

49. What’s the furthest you’ve been from your home?
From this home? Florida.  I suck at mileage and am too lazy to look up whether or not I’ve been on longer trips, so I suppose you’re stuck with that answer.

50. Do you have a special talent?
M says my special talent is fucking and taking a punch.  So we’ll stick with that, eh?

51. What is your ring tone?
I dunno.  Some random ring tone that came with the phone.

They’re all dumb.  They’re all annoying.  And I never have my ringer on, anyway.  Even when I have minutes.

I hate when I’m sitting on the bus, and some asshole’s phone blasts the latest cool hiphop song so loud that, even though he’s in the front and I’m in the back, it still makes me leap out of my skin and hurts my ears.  So… I keep my phone on vibrate and hold it in my hand when I’m expecting a text or a call.  I refuse to be that asshole.  The whole world doesn’t need to know people like to talk to me.

I’m totally stealing this and posting it on Sunday. 🙂

Oh, and I was gonna say… I recently started writing in my own journal again after not touching it for about 9 months. I’ve used up about 1/4 of the pages left in there over the last couple of weeks. It feels nice to just sit down and clear my head with ink and paper.

I’ve never seen a single episode of X-Files before. Not because I thought it looked lame or anything, just never had time to watch it.

@Ashly Star Awesome! I can’t wait to read it!

I had a really bad habit of keeping my issues to myself and then self-censoring in my journal so that when M read it, He wasn’t surprised by something I hadn’t told Him, and His feelings didn’t get hurt. Since I’ve started making it a point to tell Him everything that’s on my mind, I’ve found my journal kind of pointless.

But honestly, it really isn’t. It’s so much easier on me to work things through in my head if I write them down and can actually look at them while I’m thinking. So I really should get back to it.

X-Files isn’t a bad show. It is kind of lame sometimes, but the development of the relationship between Mulder and Scully is fun to watch, and the stories, while occasionally really over the top, are neat nonetheless. If you’ve got Netflix, they have the whole series on Watch It Now. That’s where we’re watching it, even though M has a couple of the box sets.

I love this post! It was really neat to learn these things about you. I answered the questions and posted it on my blog.
I’ve a few things in common with you. I like softball, and Nag too! It’s the only incense that doesn’t give me a migraine. And.. we wear the same size shoe! 🙂

@Gardenvy I noticed that we have a lot in common, too. 🙂 There’s a neat calming effect that I feel when we use Nag Champa. Dunno what it is. But I love it!
