Merry Christmas, everyone!

If you want to arrange it, this world you can change it if we could somehow make this Christmas thing last. By helping a neighbor. Or even a stranger. And to know who needs help, you need only just ask.

Some Christmas Hilarity for Your Christmas Eve

December 24th, 2014 1 comment

I died laughing when I watched this vid, so I figured I’d share this with you.

Hope your holidays are filled with love and laughter. Hug the kids for us. But, you know, don’t tell them it’s from us. How would you even explain that? “Here’s a hug from some crazy couple on the internet that you’ll never meet. Merry Creepy Christmas!”

After Christmas Epiphany

December 28th, 2010 2 comments

Last week, M decided we were going to go to the mall. We haven’t been in ages. Years, maybe. At least to this particular mall. And it was so last minute. But I’d decided at the beginning of this week that, since I’d accepted a job right before a time I’d asked Him to take off, and had been too chicken shit to ask if I could start when His vacation was over, I was going to just follow His lead, and do whatever He wanted.

I really had no holiday ideas of my own, anyway. I mean, I could spout all the cliche things my family did growing up. Driving around to look at lights, and bonfires, and Christmas caroling, and snowball fights (we managed even though we never got more than 3″ snow, and it rarely lasted more than a couple hours), and holiday shopping, and breakfast with Santa Claus at the local mall, and hot chocolate in front of the fireplace… At Christmas, most of the time, we pulled together, my family.  Read more…

What a Week!

December 18th, 2009 1 comment

You know, despite the fact that I had a rather shitty day on Tuesday, my week has been phenomenal.

I’m starting to feel like me again.  My medication is definitely working and doing what it needs to do for me.  Since I’ve begun it, I’ve lost about 18 pounds and I’ve still got more to go.  The majority of my weight is fluid that has been retained due to my PCOS that I’m finally being treated properly for.

Mom and I went shopping Wednesday and she encouraged me to try some clothes on.  Now, if you know me, you know that due to my weight gain and fluctuating swelling in my tummy, I’ve hated shopping.  I hate trying things on just to be disappointed.  I caved.  “She’s my mom,” I thought.  “It’ll make her happy.”  So, we proceeded to pick the racks at Burlington and went into the dressing room.

I was stunned.  Nearly everything fit me perfectly.  I almost cried with happiness.  That has NEVER happened to me before.  I’ve been convinced that I couldn’t shop anywhere but Lane Bryant.  I was proven wrong.  Lane Bryant’s clothes never made me feel good about myself.  They always made me feel fatter.  These clothes?  Totally different story.  My mom was so happy.  It brought a smile to my face to see her so happy for me.  It’s been a while since we’ve been able to share a moment together.  Let me break here and give you a bit of background as to why this was so important to me.  Read more…

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

December 17th, 2009 3 comments

90_03_36-christmas-decorations_web1So, let’s see.  What are we up to?

Well, it’s that time of year again.  There’s snow on the ground and everyone’s rushing around to find that “perfect gift” for their loved ones.  It’s frickin’ freezing outside and, even with plastic on the windows, our heater is having trouble keeping up.  I am not looking forward to seeing December’s electric and heating bill.  I can’t wait to get out of New York.

That’s not happening any time soon, though.

We borrowed one of A’s fake Christmas trees (Thanks, A!) to avoid the hassle – and extra expenditure – of buying a real one and getting it home and upstairs.  I put it up last night, but I haven’t fluffed or decorated it yet.  It sort of falls over, so I’ve got it leaning against the wall.  I’m not sure how we’re going to stand it upright when we decorate it.  But we’ll figure it out.  I’m hoping, when I fluff it, the weight will even it out enough that it’ll stand on its own.  We’ll see how that goes.

M and I have picked out our Christmas presents.  Because His is so much more expensive than mine, He decided to get me two.  Isn’t He awesome? He’s huge on fairness around the holidays, regardless of the fact that I’m a slave.  Bless Him.  That man is intent on making me happy, whether I like it or not.

I do like it, though.

I’m getting Him an iPod Touch.  He’s wanted one since they were announced.  We’ve been waiting on it because we rarely had enough extra spending money to get it for Him.  But we always break ourselves for Christmas.  Wouldn’t want to break tradition.  And thanks to His raise, Christmas isn’t going to break us this year.  It’s just gonna make things a little tight.

I can’t even begin to say how grateful I am for that.  In Schenectady alone, there are hundreds of families who aren’t going to have anything to give their children this year.  Toys for Tots didn’t have enough to go around, from what I understand.  A friend of mine got the last voucher they had, and there were still at least fifty people behind her in line.

And that’s understandable.  Everyone’s broke these days.

I think, next year, if I remember (Remind me, please!), I’ll do something similar to what AmorousRocker did over at her place.  I thought about picking it up this year, but I’ve got so much on my plate right now I was afraid I’d not be able to get it done.

I remember when my mom used to make us pick one present from under the tree to donate to Toys for Tots.  She always made sure it wasn’t the one we’d been eying all year, or the clothes she’d bought to get us through the winter.  But she also made sure it wasn’t something cheap and lame.   Read more…

Rubber Ducky, You’re the One!

December 15th, 2009 Comments off

0156400-dOoo, what’s that?

Isn’t he adorable? That is the Santa Duckie Ornament from Big Teaze Toys’s I Rub My Duckie line.

What’d it come in?

As you can see, Santa Duckie comes in a clear plastic ornament box decorated with silver snowflakes.  The back wall is blue and the floor is, too.

They really don’t want that little guy rattling around in there, though.  He’s tied up and taped and tacky glued to the molded plastic mount inside the box.

How’s it made? Read more…
