My disgustingly petty (and disgustingly disgusting) Twitter drama

January 16th, 2011

So that chick who inspired 30 Days of Truth (which I have yet to start) was making obnoxious comments about some fat woman on Bridezillas today.

To which, I responded, “So? Whatever makes her happy/comfortable.”

Had she just said unhealthy, I probably would have let it drop. Had she just said unhealthy, I probably wouldn’t have wanted to punch her in the face. Had she just said unhealthy, I probably would’ve continued following her fat-hating ass, and blown it off.

But she called the woman disgusting. And that pissed me off. So, I said, “No, what’s disgusting is people who think they have the right to tell people how much they should weigh/eat.”

I’d have said so much more if I had more than 140 characters, and if she hadn’t said:

So, I said, “No, you expressed your opinion of a PERSON on a television show. Being on tv doesn’t revoke your humanity.”

She told her followers:

When I didn’t respond, she said:

Because I must be 450lbs if I find fat hatred and fat bashing just as deplorable as racism, or sexism, or ageism, or any other sort of discrimination. Because I must be 450lbs if I want to defend a 450lb woman I don’t even know.

I guess only black people fight against racism, and only women fight against sexism.

Someone else commented on her fat-bashing, and she responded:

Which suddenly explains her fat hatred. I mean, if we’re going by stereotypes, then obviously, she’s a toothpick of a woman who spends all her time in the bathroom with her finger down her throat. I mean, no one who isn’t bulimic has fat hatred issues.

If we’d been talking only about the woman’s health, I might agree. There’s proven science that shows in many cases, extra weight puts extra strain on your body.

But that’s the person’s risk to take. Just like drinking. Smoking. Jumping out of airplanes. Taking a walk in my neighborhood. Having “casual” sex.

And who the fuck are you to tell them they’re disgusting for it? “Offensive to the physical, moral, or aesthetic taste.” You don’t have the right to decide what’s disgusting for anyone else but you.

My body naturally gravitates to the weight I currently am. To lose weight, I have to literally cut back to one meal a day, drink nothing but water, and do quite a bit of strenuous exercise. I’ve tried all sorts of things. Cutting carbs, counting calories, cutting out all junk food, portion control, Slim Fast, diet pills, insane exercise routines…

So far, there have been two times in my adult life when I was able to maintain a weight under 200lbs. Once, I was a junkie. The other, I was anorexic.

If I’m disgusting for refusing to starve myself, not wanting to be hungry all the time, or feel like my joints are coming apart from the inside out (Did I mention I have arthritis?), well… Fuck you very much. Seriously.

And that’s all I have to say about that.

Oh… Except I did say “Nope, just disgusted by people like you. :)” when she said I must be “really overweight”.

That’s just fucking pathetic on her part. Also I REALLY hate the childish throwbacks of “only fat people would get angry about this”. No, only people with humanity and common fucking decency. Plenty of people of all sizes got upset with that dumb Sexis 500-lb blowjob article; but a few really childish people drug out the tired old “you must be fat if you’re so upset”.

Jesus, they need to grow up, gain some decency and respect for fellow human beings and stop judging and name-calling just to make themselves feel better.

Like I told her, 450lbs is TOO FAT in her opinion. She said that it’s the opinion of the American Medical Association too, but I reminded her those are just opinions, and if someone wants to be 450lbs who are you to put them down. She responded with “Well, actually, I can put anybody down for anything I want to. It’s a free country. It’s my Twitter/my blog, etc. =)” I told her “Well, at least you admit to being a bitch :)” and I got “No, I don’t admit being a bitch. I admit that me talking about a FAT person usually offends ppl who are also fat” So, if I disagree with someone putting down someone that’s gay, that makes me gay? If I don’t like someone supporting racism, does that make me that race? I fail to see how anyone could ever consider this logical.

Maybe that “30 Days of Truth” is not the kind of honesty a person should have. Because that was not being honest, it was being crude and mean. Not sure I would want to read her book.

I noticed her tweets about that and thought I was the only one who got irritated with it or that I was being too sensitive. I logged off thinking I needed a break from the computer.

I hate when people say ‘hur hur, you must be fat.’ Because it doesn’t matter how much time I spend coming up with coherent, rational, relevant thoughts to bring to the discussion about fat hatred, my opinions will be dismissed with a third grade insult. To boot, it’s one that still sends me to the bathroom to cry and consider more drastic weight loss efforts that the healthy, moderate ones I’m using now. People just blurt out whatever they want and use free speech as an excuse to be an asshole all the time.

@Dangerous Lilly Would be nice, wouldn’t it?

@Lucid Obsession I’ve been told she spends quite a bit of time bitching about everyone but herself. I apparently missed that. Won’t make that mistake again.

@Nume Yeah… I’ll totally pass on her book.

@Sarahbear Basically. And they’re the ones who are truly disgusting.

People piss me off when they do stuff like that. Yes, 450 pounds is unhealthy (I even think my weight is unhealthy), but at the same time, it’s not her place to be calling another person disgusting.

I didn’t realize that she was the source of the 30 Days of Truth meme–almost makes me want to stop doing it! I abhor ugliness like that, but even more than that is when people are called on being spiteful/ugly and they DEFEND themselves for it. I’ve said some unkind/stupid things in my life, and I am prepared to forgive others when they do too–*if they own up to it and make amends*. That she didn’t and instead got nastier and starting insulting people says more (and worse) about her character than she realizes, I am sure.

@Jade Yeah. Kinda wish I hadn’t linked to her now. Ah well.

How’s it feel to be the exception to her rule? :p

I don’t understand people who feel the need to attack others for anything that truly doesn’t effect them. I agree with what you said there are helth risks with being that overweight, but it is each person’s choice to take them. I’ve definitely got weight I need to lose, but I hate it when my people will say, “at least you aren’t as big as …” I usually get angry because they always name people I know. People who are either happy with themselves, or have some health issues that make it very difficult for them to control their weight.

It’s hard to understand how some people can be so hateful towards people that they don’t know.
