Review: BonBon by Liberator

October 1st, 2010

Look! Randy fits in the BonBon! That's so rad. Click the pictures to enlarge them.

Ooo, what’s that?

So, check this thing out! Doesn’t it look absolutely amazing? It’s called the BonBon, and it comes in blueberry, charcoal, cherry, fuchsia, grape, lemon, lime and pumpkin.  Mine’s purple, cause M insisted on a matched set (We also have Liberator’s Wedge/Ramp Combo in purple.), but I’m seriously considering getting a bunch of toys in pumpkin and lime.  They’re just really neat colors! But I’m worried that when fall goes away, I won’t be quite as enthusiastic about them.  So, maybe I should wait till winter rolls around and see if I’m still interested.

What’d it come in?

That's M's finger. He's hiding behind the cardboard. In His defense, He hadn't showered, yet, and I just sort of handed Him the cardboard and said, "Here. Hold this."

The BonBon was inside a sealed plastic bag, and wrapped with a thin white piece of cardboard taped closed with a Liberator sticker.

On the outside of the cardboard, there’s a lovely blond model posing with BonBon and LELO’s Iris in one picture, and Fun Factory’s Magnum in the other.  I want both.  The toys, not the model.  Though I wouldn’t tell her to leave if she showed up on my doorstep, either.

On the back of the cardboard, you’ll find two stickers that give you directions –with photos corresponding to the numbers– for using the BonBon with toys with wide bases, and toys with narrow or no bases.

In the bottom of the box was a red, black and white booklet that has pictures of various products offered by Liberator.  And the photos of positional aids depict different sexual positions you can perform with each piece of furniture.

How’s it made?

My BFF, growing up, would have been doing flips off this thing till her mom told her what it was really for.

BonBon’s shape sort of reminds me of a mini pommel horse without bars, or one of those bull ride simulators.  A saddle? Or maybe even the bread box my mom had when I was a kid.

It’s about eight and a half inches tall, twelve inches wide, and fourteen and a half inches long.

The outer shell is two-toned microsuede.  Running down the middle is a sturdy zipper so you can take it off and toss it in the washing machine.  On the top is a slit about four and three-quarters inches long to slip a toy inside and hold it in place.  All of my dildos, including Randy (pictured above), fit inside this slit with little to no effort, except The Big Stuff large by Doc Johnson.  But I didn’t expect that one to fit.  The base is friggin’ huge!

The inner shell is black water resistant polyester.  It, too, has a sturdy zipper running down the middle, and is also removable.  In the top is a cylindrical pouch reminiscent of the cup holders you see in those folding canvas chairs people take to sports events, music festivals, and on camping trips.  It’s completely self-contained, and prevents liquid from seeping into the core while using the BonBon.

The foam core is white furniture-grade polyurethane.  It appears to be two pieces glued together.  The larger piece makes up the majority of the core and is cut down the middle just a couple inches to provide a strong grip on toys with thinner bases so they don’t slip.  The thinner piece is… Get this!… laminated, for lack of a better description, so that if you do somehow manage to soak your toy so much that liquid overcomes the water resistant polyester, it won’t seep into the polyurethane at all.  There’s a slit in the top, and a small circular hole, through which you feed the cylindrical piece on the polyester shell.

What’s it for?

The BonBon is insanely versatile.  One can use it to aid in support in various positions, and to prevent sliding across the bed during intercourse.  One can use it to support one’s back during masturbation.  One can use it to hold their favorite toy for the ride of their life.  The possibilities are endless.

How is it?

Rayne’s Rating:
Pros: Cons:
machine washable outer shell
nonslip
holds Randy!
sturdy enough to hold me
just slightly too short for Randy
a bit of a learning curve
no protective cover for storage/travel

Melen and Rayne are great! Happy to be here. Thanks for asking.

I love this thing.  Love it.

The first time I used the BonBon was an amazing experience.  It’s almost the perfect height, and holds most toys at exactly the right angle (except Tantus’s Curve, apparently… I couldn’t get comfortable when I attempted to ride the Curve.).  And it took a serious amount of self control to hold off an orgasm completely unaided by fingers or vibration.  This is huge for me, and I think it’ll help me to figure out a position in which I can orgasm during sex with M.

The foam is strong and durable.  It holds my weight (I weigh 240lbs.) without depressing much at all.  It’s wide enough for me to use it as a positional aid during intercourse.  It’s tall enough for me to lay back against and comfortably masturbate.  And it makes double-penetration with a toy and a penis a breeze.

There’s a slight learning curve to find the best position for you, and it makes a soft squeaking noise, occasionally, depending on how you’re riding it, due to the air being compressed through the slit at the top.  But once you figure all that out, you’re golden.

There are a couple things I’d like to see different.  For example, I wish it were just an inch or two taller, but that’s mostly because Randy is so short.  With a longer dildo, like Vixen’s Leo, the height is just about perfect.  However, this is going to be entirely dependent upon the length of your legs.  I have ridiculously long thighs, so someone with shorter thighs probably won’t have this problem.

I also wish it came with a protective cover for storage, like the Wedge/Ramp Combo does.  We don’t have a lot of storage space in our home, so our sex furniture often gets stuffed in the same closet as everything else.  I worry that, eventually, something might get on it and stain it.  But really, that’s my problem, not Liberator’s.  I need to move into a bigger house to accommodate my sex toy collection!

But it really is a quality product, and makes hands-free masturbation a breeze.

Anything else I should know?

Don't worry about lube or other fluids getting into the foam through the hole. Liberator thought of that, too!

The BonBon didn’t come with care instructions, and the site’s a little vague.  So, I went on a hunt for them myself, and this is what I came up with:

Microsuede: Toss the outer shell in the washing machine with cold water on the gentle cycle using half the amount of detergent you’d usually use for an item of its size.  Tumble dry on low and don’t over-dry.  A lot of what I’m reading says to test for color fastness by rubbing a small amount of detergent on a small, unobtrusive part of the fabric and watch for discoloration.  I didn’t do that.  The color hasn’t bled or faded, so I’m sure it’s fine.

Polyester: You can machine wash this shell with warm water and like colors, using an all-purpose detergent, but a damp cloth works just as well.  You can tumble dry on low, but it really dries quickly, so I’d suggest just hanging it.  Especially since over drying polyester can cause shrinkage.  While you can bleach polyester, I wouldn’t suggest it, and don’t think you’ll ever need to.  I spilled coffee on the polyester shell while I was writing this review, and it wiped right off with a washcloth, didn’t seep through the shell, and dried almost immediately.  It’s good stuff.

Polyurethane: You shouldn’t ever have to clean the core, but just in case, a damp cloth should do the trick.  Be sure you allow it to dry completely before replacing the covers.  Like furniture cushions, the foam may eventually begin to weaken with use, but I imagine that, also like furniture cushions, it will take years.

Where’d ya get it?

Awesome review! Congrats on editor’s pick, btw. I think I might kinda want of these things. I want an entire room in my house just full of liberator shapes and all my toys…ahh, dreams…

@the bedroom blogger So far, I have BonBon, and the normal Wedge/Ramp combo. They have this nifty scoop wedge/ramp combo that I want cause it folds up into a cube. And I definitely want a Zepplin, but not one of the huge ones, just one of the ones that’s like a double beanbag chair. At least, until I have a bigger house. Yeah… a room full of Liberator shapes and furniture would be awesome. Time to start saving for the security deposit. Lol.

    Thanks!

I’m considering getting this but I HATE microfiber, does it feel at all like that? (I also hate the texture of the microfiber throw)

@sophie2229 Actually, the microfiber throw will be here tomorrow, so I’ll get back to you with comparisons when I receive it. 🙂

thanks Rayne! Judging from the top photo I have a baaaad feeling. It’s a shame because it looks SO awesome.

@sophie2229 Totally forgot I’d promised you an answer. Sorry about that. The BonBon cover feels closer to suede than microfiber, I think. I just recently got the microfiber throe, as I mentioned, and it’s plush and soft and feels nothing like the BonBon cover.

If you decide to give BonBon a shot, and it turns out you don’t like the cover, you could probably throw something over the BonBon while using it. A pillowcase, or a towel, or something. Or if you’re handy with a sewing machine, you could probably make yourself a cover out of a fabric you like more to go over it pretty cheaply. With BonBon being one of the less expensive Liberator shapes, and being as completely worth it as it is, I think I’d find a way to make it work for me. But that’s just a testament to how much I love this product.

Wow, Randy looks unreal in that photo… I might have to change my contest wishlist!

On a very unsexy side note, whenever I hear Randy I think of this:

@ K2theF Randy is amazing. I absolutely adore him. I just wish he was a tiny bit longer.
