Product Review: Fetish Fantasy Zipper Head Hood by Pipedream Products

July 16th, 2010

Ooo, what’s that?

This is the Fetish Fantasy Zipper Head Hood by Pipedream Products.  And oh my, did it scare the bejesus out of me when I requested it.

What’d it come in?

See that box in the picture? Yeah, that’s what it came in.

How’s it made?

Y’all, I measured my head for this one.  And I have a pretty big head.  It’s 23″ around at the brow line.

You have to all measure your heads, now, so I can compare and see if my head’s really as massive as I think. ~nods~

On the real, though, this mask is actually decently sized.  It’s made of black lycra with a metal zipper at the mouth and metal snaps to hold the blindfold on.  It’s about eleven (I typed “elvan” first) inches at its widest point, and about thirteen inches from top to bottom.  And it has two eye holes underneath the blindfold that are stitched together in the middle.

The included blindfold is six and a quarter inches long and detaches completely.  The zipper is five inches long and opens all the way.  And the neck hole has a diameter of eight and a half inches unstretched, and since the circumference of a circle is circumference = pi * diameter, that means the neck, alone, has a circumference of 26.69 inches.

So it fits nicely over my big head.

There was a slight smell to the material when we opened the box, but it’s gone now.  And the material is stretchy, and soft, and breathable.

What’s it for?

Generally speaking, a leather hood muffles sound made and heard by the hood wearer, while keeping them from being able to see anything.  Sensory deprivation.  However, many kinksters also use hoods to dehumanize their partners during sex or play.  And that seems to be closer to what this hood was intended for.

How is it?

Rayne’s Rating:
Pros: Cons:
roomy
breathable
face shaped weird
needs more snaps

For the most part, I like it. I mean, I still get freaked out about having stuff over my face.  And I’m betting I’ll completely lose it if ever M buys a leather hood.

But this hood is roomy and doesn’t hinder breathing at all.  It doesn’t squish my nose, or even really press against my face.

The only real issue I have with this hood is how the face is shaped.  If the blindfold is off, I have to pull the zipper down to my chin to keep the fabric around the eye holes from getting in my eyes.  Which makes blow jobs sans blindfold next to impossible.  Because, you know, my mouth’s not on my chin.

Well, and it could probably stand to have one more snap on the side of each eye.  The sides of the blindfold don’t lay flat against the hood, so you can sort of see out the sides.

If you’re kink is sensory deprivation, you’re gonna want to go with a thicker material.  Or buy some ear plugs.  And you’re definitely gonna want to use some sort of gag under this hood if you’re looking for a way to silence your toys.  Because lycra is just too thin to suit that purpose.

But honestly, I think this hood is a great introduction for people like me who have a serious phobia of things over their faces.  The roominess and breathability did a lot for calming my nerves.

Anything else I should know?

Lycra doesn’t stand up to heat well.  So when you wash this, do not soak, bleach or boil it.  Hand wash it in cool water and a light detergent and hang dry.  It’s resistant to sweat, body oils,  and lotions, though, so you shouldn’t have to wash it that often.

Where’d ya get it?

This BDSM toy was sent to me free of charge in exchange for an honest review. You can buy it at PinkCherry.com.

@kevin I think you are mistaken, sir. The review, and title, both say that this product is by Pipedream products.

@kevin Oh hey… I didn’t realize Google showed that… And completely forgot to change it. (The review template I made for myself has a standard statement in that box.) My apologies. It’s fixed now. 🙂
