We’re Kinkifying the iPod Touch

May 16th, 2010

Oops.  I didn’t blog yesterday.

I had a good idea for a blog, too.  Damn if I didn’t forget what it was between last night and today.  I’ve seriously gotta start carrying a notebook around with me again.

I’ve been trying to change gears a little and get back into writing fiction.  But every time I sit down with the intention of writing, I can’t make anything come out of my fingers.  I think this is partly because I don’t read much, anymore, that isn’t the news, some educational blather on the web, a forum thread or a blog.

M’s still telling me he’s going to get me that iPod Touch.  The reason we haven’t, yet, is because we’re covering most of the cost with a gift card from Best Buy, and the closest Best Buy is an almost two hour bus ride away.  We should have thought of that when we were choosing where to tell my dad to buy the card (for Christmas).

He has a different reason for wanting to buy it, now.  One of the main reasons I don’t read much anymore is because I’ve read pretty much all of the books we own at least twice, except a couple that I just can’t get interested in.  And I’m noticing, as I get older, that reading the same story so many times I can recite half the book just isn’t interesting to me anymore.  The library has a used bookstore down the road from our house, and a giant used book sale every summer, we just rarely have the time (or the money) to go.

(Another reason, though, is definitely because I spend most of my time online.  Mostly because M’s always working and He works on the computer.  But He also works from home most of the time, now, and I’m allowed to do pretty much whatever I want when He’s home so long as He doesn’t have something He needs me to be doing.  So, really, I need to unplug during the day while He’s working occasionally and curl up with a book.)

He’s hoping that once He buys the iPod Touch, and puts some of the books I want to read that we only have in eBook on it, I’ll read more.

No… scratch that.  He’s going to make me read more when He does that.  And He says once I have my own iPod Touch, I’ll have no more excuses.

Once upon a time, in the early years of our relationship, M used to give me reading assignments.  Most of the books He required me to read were fictional, but some were educational.  And He’s informed me that He intends to assign me more of both.

I’m actually kind of excited.  He’s never assigned me a book I didn’t like.  And I really do miss reading.  This damn connection to the outside world has sapped me of all my hobbies.  Except babbling incessantly.  It seems to have increased my desire to do that.

    I have a Sony Reader and had(have) the intention of moving my books onto it. I don’t use it like he wants me to and I have some regret getting it. I do have over 100 books on it now though, all free. The classics and will be entertaining one day when I sit down and read them.

    Good luck with the iPod, I’d go nuts with the tiny screen.

    @dweaver999 Absolutely! 🙂

    @lunaKM It’s not as small as you’d think. M seems to have less trouble reading on His iPod Touch than, say, His computer screen. We’ll see how I like it, I guess.
