Product Review: Deluxe Locking Wrist Cuffs by Strict Leather

May 7th, 2010

Ooo, what’re those?

Those would be the Deluxe Locking Wrist Cuffs from Strict Leather.  They’re the first pair of locking restraints we owned, and we’ve had them for years.

How’re they made?

The cuffs are eight and three-quarters inches long, two inches wide, and about a tenth of an inch thick.  They’re made of at least two pieces soft garment leather, and feel sort of cushioned.  I don’t think they’re actually cushioned… I think it’s just the softness of the leather.

The belt around the cuffs is made of a much thicker, sturdier leather.  It’s thirteen inches long, an inch wide and about a tenth of an inch thick.  On one end is a buckle with a loop on the end of the tongue that you can fit a padlock through.  On the other is five holes to fit the tongue through.  There’s a d-ring about four inches from the buckle.  The belt is riveted to the cuff, rather than threaded through the multiple layers.  And these cuffs have that extra strap to keep the excess leather from flopping around all over the place.

Oh and one of the cuffs has “Extreme Restraints” pressed into the leather.

I wear that cuff on my left hand, always.

Shut up.

What’re they for?

These cuffs are made for wrists, though I have worn them on my ankles before.  There was a slight gap between the ends of the inner cuff, but I was able to buckle them with one hole to spare.

Use them to restrain your partner and leave him or her at your mercy.  Or make him or her wear them all the time to remind them they are owned.  However you use them, if comfort’s a concern, these cuffs have it in spades.

How are they?

Ya know how I’m always talking about M making me wear a collar and cuffs around the house? These are the wrist cuffs in that bunch.

They’re ridiculously comfortable.  Easy to put on and take off.  Soft and flexible.  Slightly cushioned.

Sometimes they’re uncomfortable when typing.  I have to wear them a specific way.  The buckles have to be on the outside, and the d-rings on the inside of my wrists.  When M bought them and started making me wear them regularly, I would make Him stop mid-buckle, flip it around, and put it on the way I usually wear it.  Except when I was in trouble, or He obviously wasn’t interested in entertaining my bullshit.  And then I’d turn them around when He wasn’t looking.

Now I just put them on myself.  It’s easier on everyone involved.

Stop laughing at me!

You’re laughing harder, aren’t you? Assholes!

He keeps threatening to put them on wrong on purpose and make me leave them that way.  I informed Him that He would just have to beat me.  He informed me that He was pretty sure I’d give in long before it went that far.

~sigh~

He’s probably right.

Anyway!

These cuffs are extremely comfortable.  They don’t cut off my circulation at all, or dig, or pinch.  They’re super soft and cushy.

They do sometimes spin around on my wrists.  And when I sleep in them, I sweat, and the metal rivets have rusted a little.  Which I suppose is just as much a comment on the  quality of the metal as it is my misuse of the cuffs.  Though I imagine they’d be much more than $54 if the metal was better quality.

Overall, though, I adore these cuffs.  I don’t think I could have done a better job picking them out.

Anything else I should know?

Padlocks not included.

Don’t get them wet! I know… it sounds like a gremlin, or whatever that thing was (mogwai), but if the water doesn’t damage this supple leather, it will at least make the metal rust.  So remove them if you’re going to be doing water-intensive activities or sweat a lot.  Or don’t.  But don’t say I didn’t warn you.

If you use these cuffs for extended wear, they will begin to mold to the shape of your wrist.  It’s what leather does.  Because they’re so soft, you probably won’t have a problem sharing them with someone with a different sized/shaped wrist, but it’s possible they could be uncomfortable.

If you must wash them, use saddle soap, and allow to dry thoroughly before storing to prevent mold or mildew.

Store them lying flat to prevent creases.

These cuffs actually seem to need some conditioning, now that I’m looking at them.  Maybe I’ll spend some time loving my leather later today.

Where’d ya get ’em?

M bought the Deluxe Locking Wrist Cuffs from Extreme Restraints a while back.  Extreme Restraints has a pretty spectacular selection ranging from vibrators and anal toys to impact toys and chastity belts.  This is one of two kink shops we regularly make purchases from.  Your privacy and satisfaction guaranteed.
