Air Feeds Fire… and Does He Ever

March 13th, 2010

The other day, I’m not really sure what prompted it, but M said something about He thinks He’s a fire sign.  And I nearly laughed out loud.  Maybe I did laugh out loud.

I know how horribly disrespectful that sounds, but think about fire.  Fire is impetuous and enthusiastic.  It consumes most anything it touches, ever pushing forward, until someone or something puts it out.  Whereas air will go around an obstacle, fire burns right through it.

And fire depends on air to survive.  Fire has nothing, whatever, to do with air’s survival.  It just adds a pleasant smell to air on occasion.

What with my thirtieth birthday just twenty-four days away, I’ve been thinking about the past thirty years a lot.  What I’ve done with them and what I haven’t.  Who I was and who I’ve become.  And no matter what I’ve experienced, one thing’s never changed.  I am, without a doubt, the epitome of a cardinal fire sign.  An Aries, through and through.

About.com says a cardinal fire sign is always on the ready for something to be passionate about.  Intuitive and insightful.  Living large and following their instincts.  “Going on faith in their inner guidance gets them far, but they have a tendency to skip crucial steps, or to be unaware of the emotional impact of their actions.”

And as I read that, I had a Winona Ryder in Girl, Interrupted moment.  You know, when she’s reading her file.  “Oh, that’s me.”

(That’s everybody, sweet pea.

Once I looked up fire signs, I had to look up air signs.  See if M matches His astrological predestination as well as I fit mine.

The first paragraph under characteristics is M.  No doubt.  It says:

Those with planets in air signs use their minds to make sense of their lives. With Air, there’s more space between the life lived and the observing mind. This can lead air signs to appear detached, aloof, remote, cool. Sometimes they’ll try to talk their way through feelings or analyze a situation instead of encountering it’s full emotional weight.

He’s almost entirely logic-driven and so incredibly intelligent.  He’s completely self-taught.  I’m not talking about just His internet skills, though He’s taught Himself almost all of what He knows there, too.  Most of what He knows in all fields, He’s sought out on His own.

But what caught my eye was this paragraph on the fire sign page about how air and fire signs react together:

When Fire and Air get together, there can be a lot of inspired thinking. Fire helps Air find focus when scattered, and adds optimism to any plans hatched. Air can articulate the big picture for the impulse-driven Fire, while the latter keeps things from being all talk and no action. These two keep each other in stitches, open the doors of perception and find new ways to astonish the other.

When things are good here, we’re constantly laughing.  I’m always pointing out the silver lining when He can’t see passed the end of His nose.  He keeps me from getting too big for my britches.  I spur Him on to stand up for Himself and live up to His potential.  He makes sure I don’t mistake idealism for optimism.

Since we met, we’ve always been the thing that balances the other out.  I keep Him sane and He keeps me from rushing headlong into disaster before looking where I’m going.  We learn from each other.  Probably I learn more from Him than He could ever learn from me.  We make fun of ourselves and each other and our friends, all in good fun.

What’s funny is most romance astrology books say that Libras and Arieses make great friends but horrible lovers.  I have to say, I think we’re definitely beating the odds there.  But with both of us having a tendency to take the lead, it makes for some interesting power struggles, as you well know.

Oh… And it occurred to me, today, that I left someone out of the celebrities I fantasize about.  I am hopelessly in love with James Spader.  I would beg that man on my hands and knees (with M’s permission, of course) to treat me the way M treats me.  Well, the mean parts.  He can keep the romance.

I just had an image of one day meeting James Spader and him saying to me, “Beg me on your hands and knees.  I read your website.  Do what you said.”  There’s a puddle in my pants.  Oh.  My.  God.

    Mmmmmmm. James Spader. i could forgive much in the Secretary simply by thinking about all the things he does in that movie. drool

    Yes yes yes to this article. It’s funny that your signs suggested that a love match was negative on the love aspect. Many sign sites frown on Aries/Taurus crosses as well, but it’s been working fine so far. Maybe the M/s forges a bond that harnesses the usually dooming aspects in a more usable effect. Or maybe it just neutralizes the clash of wills.

    @alwaysHistora He’s some kinda wonderful.

    It’s something about Libra’s introversion and Aries’s extroversion, I believe, but it’s been ages since I’ve read any romance astrology (Specifically because of the negative connotations… I am, after all, ridiculously susceptible to the power of suggestion. One sort of has to be to be a slave, I think.), so I could be off. I shall look!

    SUN SIGN COMPATIBILITY
    Male Libra and Female Aries

    Fire and Air in opposite signs – it’s a good start for romance. Throw in the fact that she is artless, fiery Aries who loves attention and he is an urbane Libra smoothy who loves to charm others and it it’s all starting to smell of roses. So where are the flies in the ointment I hear you ask. Well. You are both cardinal signs, and that means you both want to be boss. OK, OK all that conflict can be quite sexy as well. Trickier can be Aries woman’s egotism or thoughtlessness. Libra man may like to pay court to you – but all the time? And Libra man is airy – his passion may be too abstract and too poetic for her. After a point she may think that he is all mouth and no trousers, if you know what I mean. from this page.

    Apparently, it’s about us both wanting to be the leader. But while it’s in my nature to take the lead if I feel the post vacant (and we do have power struggles, even when He’s got me on a tight leash, like I said), if I feel like it’s manned “close enough for government work” I’m content to follow.

    I actually have no idea who James Spader is. I’m pretty boring like that.

    I don’t think I’d qualify for fire either. I’m pretty down-to-earth and lack much enthusiasm, so maybe I’m water or more likely Earth or something. Weather signs just aren’t my forte.

    You know, you need to let me know what you want me to write about again. 🙂

    @Kayla Oh hey… I do don’t I?

    James Spader costarred in Secretary, but most recently I drooled over him in Boston Legal. He’s a super hot 50yo actor.

    @Kayla Oh… And the elemental (~grin~) qualities you have depend on what zodiac sign you were born under. However, not everyone has all the personality qualities determined by their stars. Which is why I don’t always put a huge amount of stock into astrology.

    Air – Libra, Aquarius, Gemini
    Earth – Capricorn, Taurus, Virgo
    Fire – Aries, Leo, Sagittarius
    Water – Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces
