Product Review: Beginner Ball Gag by Tantus

February 27th, 2010

beginner_ball_gagOoo, what’s that?

While I really enjoy the Ball Gag M and I have had for years, it is a little large.  Occasionally, when it comes out, I’ve got a cramp in my jaw.  Once I couldn’t close my mouth for some time.  I’ve been staring at the Beginner Ball Gag from Tantus for quite some time.  So I bought it.

What’d it come in?

It came in two pieces in a molded plastic shell that snapped shut.  Behind it was a cardboard insert with writing on it describing the toy.

How’s it made?

The ball gag is made of red silicone.  Real, hospital-grade silicone.  This is noteworthy because ages ago we bought a purple ball gag that claimed to be silicone and wasn’t.  After only one or two uses, it began to taste really bad and burn my lips and tongue.

It’s nonporous, phthalates and latex free and hypoallergenic.  It’s soft and squishy with a luxurious velvet surface.  And it’s shaped sort of like a pacifier.  The base is about three inches long by two inches wide at its widest point, and covers the lips when inserted.

M calls the part that goes in the mouth a “mouth plug” because it has a bulbous tip (about an inch and a half wide), then shrinks down to a smaller base (about an inch) like an anal plug.  It’s two inches long from the top of the base to the top of the ball.  The base is a half inch thick.

The straps are made of black leather with snaps on one end and velcro on the other.  They’re each sixteen inches long and slip through slits on either side of the “mouth plug”, then snap in place.  The leather is soft on both the inside and outside and a little stretchy.

What’s it for?

Paralyzing the tongue and effectively silencing your partner, mostly.  But its shape makes it an amazing “adult pacifier” for those of us into age play.  Pop the gag in the mouth and secure the velcro behind the head.  You could probably use it without the straps, too, though, obviously, the wearer will have an easier time spitting it out.

How is it?

Rayne’s Rating:
Pros: Cons:
made of real silicone
extremely comfortable
squishes my tongue ring

The only complaint I have about this gag is a complaint I have with all gags, lately.  But it’s easily fixable.

I’m not sure if it’s just the piercing, or if it’s because of the length or size.  But all ball gags we’ve used so far crush my tongue ring into my tongue and leave it sore for a day or so.  Probably I should be taking my tongue ring out first, anyway.  I’ve had my tongue pierced since I was eighteen, so I’m in no fear of it closing during a play session.

Other than that, it’s extremely comfortable.  I sat for hours with it in my mouth the first time I used it and the only cramp I had was in my tongue.  My jaw was surprisingly without even the slightest bit of pain.

M says the bouncie ball ball gag we’ve had for years stretches my mouth weird.  This one doesn’t.

With the velcro secured as tight as it would go around my gigantic dome, I could push the gag partially out of my mouth, but not completely.  I have no trouble pushing the bouncie ball gag out of my mouth most of the time.

All in all, I really enjoy this gag.

How do you care for it?

The leather straps can be cleaned with saddle soap if they need it.  But try to keep them dry.

As for the part that goes in your mouth, boil it or toss it in the top drawer of the dishwasher (remove the straps first).  Wash it with antibacterial soap and water or toy cleaner.  And store it in the drawer with the rest of your restraints and such.

Where’d ya get it?

I bought Beginner Ball Gag from that store but you can pick it up straight from Tantus.

Great review. I’m not sure how I’d feel about the velcro or the appearance of this one, but it still looks like it’d work. 🙂

How resistant to collapse is the ball part? Does it easily collapse, like a latex pacifier, or does it resist this affect, holds its shape?

It’s solid silicone, so it doesn’t collapse at all. I tend to bite gags, and I can’t even leave teeth marks in it. And if you buy it today, and use code OHYEAH25 at checkout, you can get 25% off. Today’s the last day, though.

Thanks for your reply. Regarding the discount, even with their 25% off, it’s more expensive than other venues. For instance, Amazon has the red one at $19.45 plus shipping.

Huh. You must be better at searching Amazon than I am. I only see it for $25.94 there. It’s $30 at SheVibe, which is also cheaper than Tantus. Interesting.

In any case, buy it where ever you get the best price, I say. But do buy it. It’s the best ball gag we’ve ever used.

Ohh! It’s a sale for Prime accounts. Amazon manages to undercut everyone with those.

OK, I got it at my girlfriend’s suggestion…to eliminate my loud snoring problem. It worked so well that, after going to the bathroom in the middle of the night and not putting it back in, SHE stuffed it back into my mouth when I was asleep (and, yes, loudly snoring)! I was able to sleep with all the time, surprisingly, it didn’t cause any drooling. Now she insists on me using it whenever I’m sleeping over, so I store it at her place.
The only thing I noticed was that it may act as dental braces since it seems to be pushing my upper teeth forward and lower teeth backwards); at least that’s what it felt like after I finally removed it upon waking up and staring our day. It felt like a small space formed between my front uppers and lowers as they no longer touch when I relax my mouth. She told me that she wouldn’t care even if it made my teeth permanently bucked eventually since it guarantees her a good sleep and in the mood for some “extra” activities in the early morning. Well, after this morning, I don’t care either! 🙂
