Product Review: Super Strap Ankle Cuffs by California Exotics

January 22nd, 2010

31MRY2DB1NL._SX450_Ooo, what’re those?

Those are the Super Strap Ankle Cuffs by California Exotics.

How’re they made?

These cuffs are made of two strips of black leather.  One is ten inches long and three inches wide.  The other, which is threaded through four one inch slits in the first piece, is fourteen inches long and an inch wide.  The inside of the cuffs are not lined.

The clasp is a metal cinch buckle that you thread the leather through, then thread back on itself to hold it in place.  And in the center, threaded onto the thinner strap, there’s a d-ring with a carabiner clipped to it.

What’re they for?

Newbie bondage freaks? Weak ankles? Sensual players? They’re certainly not made for big, strong, squirmy masochists involved with heavy-hitting sadists, that’s for sure.

But if you’ve never tried leather bondage and want a semi-decently priced jumping off point, these aren’t bad to start with.  Especially when compared to the prices of some of the better quality leather restraints.

How are they?

Rayne’s Rating:
Pros: Cons:
Cost effective
Good for beginners
Cinch buckle
Sharp edges

Uncomfortable? Unreliable? Unusable? But then, I’m not one to just lay there and take it.  I twist and yank and turn and… I try to close my legs and pull up my knees and get away.

I fight.  Hard.

The cinch buckle is not meant to stand up to that kind of pressure.  It takes under a minute for me to pull free.

The edges of the leather are almost sharp.  They feel sort of the way it feels when you lean against the edge of a piece of cardboard.  Wiggling makes them cut into my skin.  I can’t help but think that it’s not just cause I’m fat.  I mean, I don’t really have fat ankles.  I’m certainly not sporting cankles by any means.

However, nothing has broken yet.  It’s all held together rather well.  The leather slipped out of the buckle before bending or breaking it.  The d-rings and carabiners appear to withstand the force rather well.  And the back of the leather is soft and doesn’t irritate the skin.

If they held better, and didn’t dig into my ankles, they wouldn’t be all that bad.  A little cheaply made, but that just makes them great for beginners.

How do you care for them?

Honestly? I toss them in the drawer.  I think they’ve been used once since I effortlessly pulled myself free.  Maybe I’ll make up a basket of sharable toys that would be awesome for newbies and have a giveaway.  Heh.

However, if you try them and like them, you’re going to want to avoid getting water or lube on them.  Try to store them flat or they will crease.  If you must clean them, saddle soap is best, but a warm, barely damp washcloth will suffice.  Just be sure they dry completely before storing them to avoid molding.

Where’d ya get it?

To be perfectly honest, I haven’t a clue where we picked these bad boys up.  More likely than not, we grabbed them on a whim from one of the local adult stores.  But you can pick up a set at Amazon.

Just cheap “latigo” leather, dear. i.e. many layers glued together. I have a pair of ones kinda like this and a pair with better leather that’s all just one natural piece and MAN IS IT SOFT.

@Dangerous Lilly These seem to be one piece but it’s hard to tell. There’s some kinda something on the edge that I forgot to mention. Almost like it’s treated so it doesn’t fray or something.
