Product Review: Intimate Moments Gift Set by Kama Sutra

January 15th, 2010

Ooo, what’s that?

That? That’s just the Intimate Moments Gift Set by Kama Sutra.  It contains a bottle of Sweet Almond Massage Oil, some Sweet Honeysuckle Honey Dust and a feather applicator.

What’d it come in?

The gift set came in a nice green and cream cardboard box with a see-through plastic cut out in the front.  Like all of Kama Sutra’s packaging, the box is modest and elegant in its design.

Inside, trapped in tightly molded plastic (as in, I had trouble getting everything out of it), you’ll find a plastic 4 oz. bottle of Sweet Almond Massage Oil, the feather applicator and a metal cylinder.  Inside the cylinder is the usual satin drawstring pouch (in black for this kit) covering a plastic bag that’s twist-tied closed.

What’s in it?

Massage oil: Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Pistacia Vera Seed Oil, C 12-15, Alkyl Benzoate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Frangrance, Tocopheryl Acetate, Aplpha-Isomenthyl Ionone, Benzyl Benzoate, Citronellol, Coumarin, Limonene, Linalool

Honey Dust: Corn Starch Modified, Glucose, Zea Mays (Corn) Starch, Honey, Silica, Honey Extract, Sodium Scaccharine, Frangrance, Sodium Benzoate, Amyl Cinnamal, Benzyl Alcohol, Eugenol, Hydroxy Citronellol, Benzyl Salicylate, Geraniol, Linalool, Citronellol, Benzyl Benzoate

What’s it for?

Massage Oil: Well, massaging someone, of course.  Rub the day’s stress away with just a dime’s worth of oil in the palm of your hand.  Warm it up with an oil warmer for a more relaxing effect.  Or just dribble it onto your partner’s skin and rub.

Honey Dust (w/applicator): Honey Dust adds a slightly sweet flavor to the skin, as well as a nice aroma.  Dust it on with the feather applicator for some light, sensual teasing, then lick it off if you so choose.

How is it?

Rayne’s Rating:
Pros: Cons:
Honey Dust smells amazing
Love the tin it comes in
Oil’s texture is almost perfect
Oil too sweet in the bottle

Massage Oil: I am absolutely infatuated with this massage oil.  Which is funny considering the first time I smelled it, I was completely put off by it.  Years ago, when I worked at The Earth Shop, this was one of our best sellers.  And I couldn’t, for the life of me, figure out why.

But I’d never used it, either.

When I took off the cap and popped the seal, I was instantly reminded of why I never bought the stuff.  The fragrance, concentrated in the bottle, can be excruciatingly overpowering.  Especially if you’re not really into sweet scents in the first place.  It smells sort of like a chocolate covered cherry without the chocolate, and the sugary sweetness is enough to give you a toothache.   But don’t let that stop you.  Drizzle a little into your hand and start to rub.  I promise you won’t be disappointed.

The oil feels as an oil should.  Thin, slippery and slimy, but not overly so.  It absorbs quite nicely, provided you use the right amount.  And the right amount depends on your partner’s skin.  Oily skin will need much less than normal or dry skin.

But what about that smell? Oddly enough, as you massage the oil into your partner’s skin, the sweetness starts to dissipate, and the aroma begins to resemble baby oil.  Baby oil smells good! So, I suppose I can overlook the overpowering concentrated scent that comes from the bottle.  But only cause I love the rest of its properties so.

Honey Dust (w/applicator): The applicator is smaller than the applicator in the Treasure Trove Gift Tin.  The handle for the tin is one and one-half inches long, while the handle for this set is three-quarters of an inch.  There are less feathers on the one for this set and they are cut shorter.  But the shorter length doesn’t seem to make much difference.  One noticeably feels thinner than the other, but they have the same sensation.

After buying and trying the Honey Dust in the Treasure Trove Gift Tin, I was sort of put off by Honey Dust.  I mean, it tasted like a Fun Dip stick and didn’t really smell like much.  If I’m looking to be tickled, the feather’s fine just by itself.  But different is different.  Honeysuckle could be awesome

And it is!

It smells like women’s perfume.  None of this light and fruity stuff that girls wear today.  But the heavy musk we used to wear in the late 80s and early 90s.  Only different somehow.  Prettier.  More feminine and sensual.  The scent seems to hang around longer.  You can smell it emanating off the skin from at least six inches away, if not farther.  It tastes about the same, but isn’t quite as gritty as the Strawberries and Champagne flavor.

I’m addicted.  Truly.

Where’d ya get it?

It was utterly bizarre and totally awesome.  I’m just a Twittering away and happen to notice a contest announcement fly across my screen.  So, knowing how much I love free swag and being the caring friend I am, I retweeted it to everyone following me.  Low and behold, I was the first to retweet it, so SexToys.com offered me my choice of a tickler, a massage kit or a strap on for review.  I don’t have anyone to use a strap on with, and ticklers usually end up doing just that; tickling.  But I love massage kits! So! I asked for that.

    Great review.

My wife and i have the same set, and it has really spiced up our love making.

The oil is perfect for giving a relaxing sensual massage. It seems to last a really long time without having to keep adding oil during the massage.

We don’t use the duster as much as we should. It seems that whenever we use it, things get fun quickly, but I think we both prefer to be totally relaxed more than anything else these days. I guess that’s what age does to you 🙁

@Mark Thanks 🙂 Yeah, M and I really love it. And I meant to dust on some Honey Dust before we left this morning (It smells that good.) but I forgot. Ah well. I can smell sexy for Him when He gets home, I guess.
