Product Review: Smart Balls by Fun Factory

October 18th, 2009

FF36308_001_mdI have been lusting after Smart Balls by Fun Factory since the first time I heard them mentioned.  I’m not sure how they came up, but someone in an IRC channel somewhere told me about them.  I did a quick Google search, found them and fell in love.  So when TabuToys.com offered me a set of black and magenta Smart Balls for review, I snatched them up.

The Smart Balls came in a cream and red cardboard box with Fun Factory’s logo on the outside.  The front of the box is open so you can see the toy.  On the back are magnetic flaps that open to reveal a description of the toy in eight languages and a diagram of the smart balls describing each feature.  Unfortunately, the magnets are pretty strong, and the first time I opened the flap, I ripped one off.  Inside, they rested in a piece of molded plastic folded over themselves.  As with a lot of Fun Factory toys, there was  a sample of Fun Factory’s Bodyfluid, which is a silicone based lube, and directions on how to use the toy.

Smart Balls are recommended by midwives to be used vaginally for kegel training, but can be used anally as well; just be sure to keep the pull cord outside of your body for extraction.  They’re meant to be worn for about twenty to thirty minutes, preferably when you’re in motion.  So after inserting them, go for a walk, run the stairs, clean your house, work out… This vaginal exerciser is most effective when you actually have to put forth effort to hold the balls in.

Smart Balls can also be used for arousal.  Inside the outer shell are smaller balls that rattle around inside.  They’re supposed to aid in exercising the PVC muscles, and massage and stimulate the vaginal walls.  After twenty minutes of wearing these babies, I’m close to ripping M’s clothes off.  My pussy’s twitching and sopping wet.  Especially if I have to climb the stairs a time or two.

These balls are made of 100% elastomed.  They’re non-porous, odorless and phthalate free.  And they can be used with silicone or water based lubes.

They’re about four inches long and one and one half inches in diameter with a pull cord for extraction.  They’re slightly oblong and connected by a thin piece of elastomed.  The directions say to be sure not to twist the connection to avoid breakage or tearing in the material.

To insert Smart Balls, you’ll probably want a little bit of lube.  It doesn’t take much.  Just a little dollop on the top ball is all I’ve ever needed.  Grip the top ball and insert it.  Then, once the top ball is in, insert the bottom one the same way being sure the cord is outside your body.  I’ve found that the easiest way for me is to sit with my bottom on the edge of the couch or bed and lean back, then slide them in, but I’ve heard some say standing with one foot  on a chair is easiest for them.  When I inserted them that way (one leg on a chair),  I couldn’t get the second ball to stay in place.

So… how do they work? Do I like them?

Well… I love them, for the most part.  I learned the hard way that you really don’t want to use a lot of lube with them when used vaginally.  They haven’t fallen completely out, yet, but occasionally the bottom ball slips out.  That’s an interesting feeling, let me tell you.

Walking up and down the stairs is an interesting experience.  The gentle vibrations of the inside balls moving around are amazing.  And extraction feels rather nice.

Unfortunately, I can’t speak to how well they tighten the PVC muscles, yet.  I stopped wearing them for a couple days because I left them in too long.  Leaving them in too long gives me slight abdominal discomfort, so I’d suggest not wearing them much longer than the recommended time.  And now I’ve developed a painful cyst (not from the Smart Balls – the cyst showed up well after I’d stopped using them) and decided to wait to use them again until it heals.  So once I can wear them again, I’ll probably do a follow up about their effectiveness in this area.

To clean your Smart Balls, all you need is warm water and soap.  But because they are elastomed, you can sterilize them by pouring boiling water over them.  Smart Balls can be shared if properly cleaned, thanks to the their non-porous, medical grade material.

All in all, I really like my Smart Balls and can’t wait till I can use them again.  Thanks, TabuToys.com!

The best way I wear smart balls is so that they hook my pubic bone. The top ball above and the bottom ball below. It helps keep them from falling out too. I can then feel the vibrations a lot better. Just a thought.

@lunaKm Somehow I missed this comment. I’m gonna have to try that. Teneo stays in place just fine but these sometimes slip.
