The Truth Shall Set You Free

August 14th, 2009

Over the past few months, I’ve had no less than three friends tell me (or show me with their actions) that they don’t think I can handle their truth.  Whatever their truth may be.  Be it that they have an opinion about me they don’t think I’ll like to hear or have decided someone’s not as bad as I think they are or have an opinion about M they think will piss me off…

Just.  fucking.  stop it.

I’m twenty-nine years old.  Not two.  And you never even gave me the opportunity to prove I’m all growed up.  You just “protected” me from your truth based on an assumption you have no way of knowing is real or not.

And if you can’t stop it, fuck off.

I am not a baby.  I do not appreciate being treated like one.  Stop tiptoeing around me or just stop being around me.

If this is too harsh? Oh well.  I’m tired of it.

    It’s been my experience that those who “protect you” from the truth are really protecting themselves from the consequences of their own actions or beliefs. It’s much like a parent not saying, “no,” to their child because they don’t want to have to deal with the temper tantrum. Ad you’re right, they really should grow up and deal with it.

    @dweaver999 See… I have a lot of friends whose life choices I don’t exactly agree with. But I’m grown enough to say to them “Do your *really* think that’s a good idea?” Or if they’re doing something that’s shitty, I say “That’s really fucking shitty, dude.” Or if I disagree with them, “That’s not what I think.”

    All I ask is for the same courtesy. I didn’t realize it was such a hardship. (The hardship comment isn’t aimed at you, Dave.)

    @cinnamon I’d hope so.

    I understand what you mean. There are people I won’t be that straight with, but they’re also people who tend to blow up when I am that way with them. needless to say, I don’t think of them as friends, close or otherwise. There’s worse though. I know a couple of people I can’t avoid being aorund (either work collegues or friends’ relations) who have those bad habits of never giving a striaght answer to anyone and telling whomever they’re talking to what they think the person wants to hear. It’s probably too much to hope that you aren’t forced into contact with anyone like that. LOL
